SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WOOD) — A lakeshore restaurant is hosting a benefit for the family of Melissa Moore.
Moore, 31, was shot and killed near Knapp Street and Truxton Drive NE in Grand Rapids on November 6.
Moore, a mother of two from Holland, worked as a bartender for six years at Coral Gables restaurant in Saugatuck.
Coral Gables is hosting a benefit for Moore’s family on Sunday, November 22 starting at 2 p.m.
The owner of Coral Gables, Mike Johnson said they’re hoping to raise at least $30,000 to go towards trust fund Moore’s two children.
“She’s just a fantastic mother she cared so much about her boys, that’s all she was really working for,” Johnson said. “She will be sorely missed. There’s nothing we can do about bringing her back but the one thing we can do is help her boys.”
The benefit is open to the public, it will feature live music, food and drinks.
The investigation into Moore’s murder is ongoing.
Authorities have issued an open murder warrant for the arrest of 38-year-old Jermaine Cooper. Acquaintances have said Cooper was Moore’s boyfriend.
Grand Rapids Police Sergeant Terry Dixon told 24 Hour News 8 Friday afternoon they are exhausting all leads to try and find Cooper.
