WARREN, Mich. (AP) — Police say a 58-year-old woman has died after being struck by a pickup truck while trying to retrieve a hat that was blown off by wind in suburban Detroit.
Warren police say the woman stepped into a roadway and was hit on Thursday evening. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lt. Daniel Novak tells The Detroit News that witnesses told investigators “her hat blew off, she turned around to retrieve the hat and she was struck.”
The Warren woman’s name wasn’t immediately released. The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports no charges are expected against the pickup driver, but the crash is under investigation.
The crash happened amid high winds that were felt across Michigan as part of a strong Midwest storm.
