Sand piles shut down Muskegon street

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) – The high winds that whipped up dangerous waves on Lake Michigan this week are also responsible for another hazard on the lakeshore.

Blowing sand has forced Muskegon city officials to shut down Beach Street, from Beachwood Park to Lakeshore Drive.

The city took a preemptive strike and closed the span of road Wednesday afternoon, before the strong winds set in.

A post to the city’s Facebook page says Beach Street will remain closed through Saturday, as crews work to clear sand from the roadway.
