DANBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One man was hospitalized Thursday after a crash near Portland that may have been caused by a medical emergency.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 2:15 p.m. off E. Grand River Avenue near Cutler Road in Danby Township, just south of Portland.

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says the 74-year-old driver, a Portland-area man, was westbound on Grand River when he is believed to have had a medical emergency that caused his pickup truck left the road and hit a tree.

The driver was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
