GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Santa Claus is coming to town on Saturday, November 21. The Art Van Santa Parade is a special day full of fun for families.
The parade itself is presented by the Grand Rapids Jaycees. It kicks off at 9 a.m. at Michigan Street and Monroe Avenue. There will be giant balloons, nine marching bands, live entertainment, the Express Clydesdales, and Grand Marshall Rachel Reenstra. Reenstra is a West Michigan native and hosts a television show The Wildlife Docs on ABC. The parade will also feature music by special guest Matt Giraud.
The Express Clydesdales started in 1999 as ambassadors for Express Employment Professionals. They travel throughout the country promoting the company and charitable work. The Clydesdales have walked in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the St. Patrick’s Parade in Chicago, and the Tournament of Roses Parade. They also chauffeured the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their visit to Calgary.
If you can’t make it out to the parade, it will be televised live by WOOD TV8 at 9 a.m., hosted by eightWest’s Rachael Ruiz and Jordan Carson.
After the parade, stay for photos with Santa until 12:30 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Art Museum studio. Meet Santa’s reindeer and see the Clydesdales. There will also be meet and greets with Rachel Reenstra, Matt Giraud, and WOOD TV8’s Rachael Ruiz and Matt Kirkwood at PNC Bank downtown.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy hot chocolate, and view a tree lighting at the Grand Rapids Public Library. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum to help decorate materials for the Children’s Healing Center.
