GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Five people were injured Saturday morning after their car crashed into a Grand Rapids fire truck that was blocking another wreck.

According to Grand Rapids police, the Grand Rapids fire truck was on the scene of a different crash when a Ford Focus lost control and crashed into the back of the ladder truck.

A 31-year-old man, 26-year-old woman, and three children, ages 5, 6 and 8, were inside of the vehicle when the crash happened. The woman was unconscious and taken to a hospital for treatment. The three children were also taken to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, but are expected to be okay.

Authorities said the driver remained trapped inside of the vehicle and had to be removed. Authorities say he suffered a serious leg injury.

The westbound lanes of I-196 were closed between Lake Michigan Drive and Market Avenue, but have since reopened.
