GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — First it was Black Friday, then Cyber Monday, but have you heard of Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global day dedicated to giving back.
Charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will join together on December 1 and donate resources or time to organizations and communities.
As part of the national Giving Tuesday initiative, The Salvation Army’s Grand Rapids Advisory Board has created a $30,000 matching gift to boost public donations in support of the 2015 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.
Donations from all sources including online, mail, red kettles, and phones in Kent County will be matched up to $30,000 on Tuesday.
The public can get involved through a variety of ways:
- At over 60 Red Kettle sites throughout Kent County
- Online at sakentcounty.org
- By phone at 616.459.3433 or 1-800-SAL-ARMY
- By sending financial gifts directly to The Salvation Army, 1215 Fulton Street East, Grand Rapids
The money is used to fill local food pantries, buy Christmas toys for kids in need, support mental health and drug addiction programs, and finance Salvation Army’s work in the community.
