KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD)—A Kalamazoo public safety officer who died after a long battle with breast cancer has been laid to rest.

Law enforcement officers and loved ones gathered at Valley Family Church in Kalamazoo Monday morning to say their final goodbyes to Sgt. Lisa Zuk.

The veteran officer passed away last month, after battling breast cancer for several years.

Zuk served as a member of KDPS for 14.5 years, including the positions of public safety officer, K9 handler, recruiter and field training officer in addition to sergeant, according to a release by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

The department said Zuk had an “infectious attitude” and a “fighting spirit” during her time serving Kalamazoo’s Edison neighborhood – a gift she had left with her co-workers.

For those who would like to donate to the family, an account has been set up at Lake Michigan Credit Union under “Zuk Benefit Fund.” A donation can be made at any of their locations.
