COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says two people died after the vehicle they were in drove off the road and hit a tree.
It happened around 3:50 p.m. Saturday on S. 26th Street near Cork Street in Comstock Township, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Investigators say the vehicle was northbound when the driver lost control and hit a tree. Both the driver and passenger were killed.
Sunday, the sheriff’s office identified the driver as 34-year-old Emil Skokan III and the passenger as 53-year-old Peggy Nichols, both of Kalamazoo.
The pair was headed to the hospital for a birth. Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 on Monday that Skokan was the baby’s father and Nichols was the baby’s maternal grandmother.
