CLEVELAND (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Griffins are on a roll. They broke the franchise record with their 12th straight win on Wednesday.
Playing at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, the Griffins beat the Lake Erie Monsters 3-2 even though they were outshot 49-28.
Robbie Russo scored in the first period and Anthony Mantha scored twice in the second for the Griffins. Goalie Jared Coreau stopped 47 shots.
The Griffins’ previous winning streak record was 11 games, which they set in March 2006 and matched on Sunday when they beat the Iowa Wild. According to the Griffins, the 12-game streak is the longest by any team so far this season and the longest in the AHL since the Norfolk Admirals won 28 straight in 2012, the same season they won the Calder Cup.
Grand Rapids goes for No. 13 on Friday against the Texas Stars at Van Andel Arena.
