MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) – The holiday season is the time families gather around a meal together. However, this can be a struggle for some of West Michigan’s needy aging population.
Purchasing and preparing meals can be a struggle for senior citizens but luckily there are great organizations to reach out and help those in need. This takes a lot of time, effort and financial support to do so.
The DTE Energy Foundation gave a $30,000 donation to Meals on Wheels of West Michigan. That will be able to provide 5,000 meals to senior families throughout Grand Rapids and Muskegon.
Nearly 50 DTE Energy employees, family and friends were in Muskegon to volunteer and help deliver and serve meals.
The DTE Energy Foundation will donate a total of $110,000 dollars to 10 different agency partners throughout Michigan. A $16,500 grant will benefit the Senior Resources of West Michigan which works in Muskegon, Oceana and Ottawa counties, along with organizations like AgeWell Services. $13,000 grant is going to the Area Agency on Aging of West Michigan to serve seniors in Grand Rapids.
