GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Firefighters from three departments battled a large house fire in the Ada area on Saturday.

Kent County Dispatch said a call came in at 2:45 p.m. about a fire in the 1900 block of Emerald Glen Court in Grand Rapids Township. Firefighters told 24 Hour News 8 just before 5 p.m that it had been contained.

Firefighters on scene said the blaze started as a chimney fire, then spread to the house. Firefighters said the residence is a total loss.

The residents who were inside the house escaped safely and called 911.

The fire departments from Ada, Grand Rapids and Cascade townships responded.

Limited water supply hinders crews’ ability to fight the fire. There were not enough nearby hydrants and trucks ran out of water, so more was called in.

**Correction: A previous version of this article stated the fire spread to the woods behind the house. That not accurate. The fire did not spread to the woods.
