Nearly 5K without power in W MI due to winter storm


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Nearly 5,000 Consumers Energy customers in West Michigan are still without power due to Monday’s winter storm.

The outages are a result of strong winds and freezing rain from the storm.

Here are the latest outage numbers by county as of 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to Consumers Energy:

  • Allegan: 836
  • Branch: 1,802
  • Kent: 254
  • Montcalm: 593
  • Muskegon: 61
  • Newaygo: 203
  • Ottawa: 353
  • St. Joseph: 229
  • Van Buren: 425

Roger Morgenstern with Consumers Energy said crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. They expect power to be fully restored across the state either by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Consumers Energy customers can now sign up to receive text alerts on their phone when there is an electrical outage in their area (including scheduled outages) and when power is expected to be restored. To sign up, text REG to 232273 (CECARE).
