Security video shows brutal hammer attack at gas station

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Police have released surveillance video of a hammer attack on a clerk, in hopes of finding the man who robbed a gas station in Battle Creek.

The robbery happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday at the Citgo gas station in the 400 block of Capital Avenue NE.

The disturbing video shows the robber repeatedly hit the clerk with a hammer while the victim scrambled across the convenience store’s floor, trying to get away.  Police said the clerk was hit in the head before he was able to get away and wave down a passing cab for help.

The attendant was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

A K-9 unit was called in to track down the suspect, but lost his scent.

The robber is described as a white man, between the ages of 20 years and 30 years. He was wearing dark clothing with a scarf around his face.
