Police ID suspect in gas station hammer attack

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD)– Battle Creek police have identified a suspect in connection to a brutal hammer attack on a gas station clerk.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 28 at the Citgo gas station in the 400 block of Capital Avenue NE.

Disturbing surveillance video shows a robber repeatedly hit the clerk with a hammer while the victim scrambles across the convenience store’s floor, trying to get away.

Police said the clerk was hit in the head before he got away and waved down a passing cab for help.

The suspect also escaped.

Officers are now looking for 21-year-old Navjot Singh in connection with the attack. A detective told 24 Hour News 8 they believe it was a targeted attack, as the suspect is a relative of the victim.
