Woman rescued from Kzoo River in stable condition

OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) — Emergency responders pulled a woman from the Kalamazoo River in Otsego on Tuesday evening.

Someone called 911 around 8:20 p.m. reporting that they heard someone yelling for help, according to Allegan County Central Dispatch. The woman was in the river off of Helen Avenue, just west of N. North Street.

A fence made it difficult for rescuers to get to the victim, but they were soon able to get her out of the water.

The woman is in the hospital in stable condition, authorities say. She is being treated for hypothermia.

Authorities say they are not sure how the woman got into the water, but say alcohol may have played a role.

Otsego police and firefighters, Plainwell police and EMS and the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the rescue.
