School bus falls into Grand Rapids sinkhole

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police said part of a school bus fell into a sinkhole in Grand Rapids Wednesday morning.

Crews on scene said a Kent Intermediate School District bus became stuck in the sinkhole at Lakeside Drive NE near E. Fulton east of Aquinas College just after 7 a.m. The sinkhole was caused by a water main break.

Grand Rapids police told 24 Hour News 8 that everyone was safe and the water department was called in. The bus has since been removed.

Lakeside Drive was closed between Academy Drive and Fulton for hours. It had reopened as of 5 p.m.
