KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) There’s a gem in Kalamazoo that’s a must-see destination for families. The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts features works by local artists and artists around the country. It hosts nearly 16 exhibitions and has 4,600 works of art in its permanent collection.
The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts encourages people to not only view great art, but also to create it. It offers art classes in many different mediums including painting, class, jewelry, sculpture, and classes specifically for children and teens.
Playing and creating is part of the experience at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. There is an interactive space for children and the young at heart to get creative and enjoy hands-on fun and activities. Parents and kids are invited to stop in for free on the second Saturday of each month for Art Detectives. Kids can enjoy a story, take a gallery tour, go on a scavenger hunt, then make their own work of art.
The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is open Tuesdays through Sundays. Adults are $5. Students with ID are $2. KIA members, kids 12 and under, school groups, and active military personnel are free. Check the website for exhibitions, workshops, and special holiday events.
