GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) The first step to a healthier lifestyle is often the hardest one. A West Michigan mom is taking that leap and has her sights set on the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5K.
The Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5K is the only all-women event of its kind in West Michigan. More than 60% of the nearly 3,500 participants in 2015 were new to running, making it an approachable and encouraging environment.
Elissa Herbst is participating in the 5K at Gazelle Girl as her very first race. She is embarking on a mission to get active and start living a healthier lifestyle by completing a Couch to 5K program and blogging about it. Couch to 5K eases a beginner into running by prompting the participant to walk and run at short intervals, with the goal to be able to run 5K at the end of the program. Herbst is blogging about her experience on wotv4women.com in a series called, “Couch Potato to 5K.”
The Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5K takes place on Sunday, April 17, starting and finishing at Calder Plaza in downtown Grand Rapids. For information on the race, training programs, and to register, visit www.gazellegirlhalfmarathon.com.
