ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (WOOD) — A tow truck driver was injured when a semi-truck crashed into his vehicle on I-94 in St. Joseph while he was assisting another crash.
Officers were on the scene of a single vehicle slide-off crash on I-94 near Niles Avenue when a semi-truck lost control and slid into a tow vehicle around 11 a.m. Monday.
The force of the semi-truck pushed the tow truck and semi off the road and into some trees, according to a release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Polaskey, 39, was operating the tow truck outside when the crash happened. He attempted to run for safety, but was hit during the crash and was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown.
The driver of the semi-truck, 58-year-old Craige Poparad, was cited for traveling too fast for conditions.
The right lane of I-94 near Niles Avenue was closed for more than an hour. Police say the road was snow-covered and slippery.
