Battle Creek house fire considered ‘suspicious’

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A fire at a vacant home in Battle Creek is under investigation.

When crews arrived at the home in the 100 block of Harris Street around 5 a.m. Monday, the home was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters had also been there on Sunday night for a small fire in the basement.

The home was abandoned and no utilities were connected. Police are now investigating the fire as suspicious.

No one was injured in the fire, but police were monitoring the home for possible squatters.

Authorities estimate $25,000 in damage as a result of the fire.
