GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Many people dream of hopping on a plane and landing in a warmer destination. But for some, flying can be a frightening experience, especially if it’s your first time. A new book is hoping to ease flyers’ fears.

Congratulations, First-Time Flyer!” was written by professional flight attendant Barbara Lynn Freedman. It features a character named Sky Grrl, who explains what to expect while flying and what makes it a fun adventure.

Freedman has always had a special passion for first-time flyers and nervous flyers. She wanted to have something to give first-time flyers that would tell them what it’s like, why it’s safe, and why it’s fun. “Congratulations, First-Time Flyer!” is her gift to those flyers and their families and companions to help make them feel comfortable and safe.

The book is illustrated by Claudia Pimentel of Strange Teeth Illustration. Both women are from Grand Rapids and incorporated many features of the city in the book.

“Congratulations, First-Time Flyer!” is available on Amazon and at Schuler’s Books and Music on 28th Street in Grand Rapids.
