BCPD: Boys, 12, accused of break-ins

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Two 12-year-old boys were arrested Monday after allegedly breaking into Battle Creek businesses.

One of the robberies happened just before 9 p.m. in the 700 block of Capital Avenue SW, south of East Territorial Road. The first officers called to the scene found a window broken out, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Other officers on the way to the scene spotted two boys who took off when approached. Officers gave chase and saw the suspects throwing away phones, BCPD said.

An officer caught one of the boys and the other ran into a house on Eldred Street, where officers found him.

Both boys had items on their person that were stolen from the Capital Avenue business and another business on nearby Columbia Avenue, BCPD said.

They were arrested and taken to the Calhoun County Juvenile Home pending hearings.

Anyone with more information about the thefts is asked to call the BCPD at 269.781.0911 or Silent Observer at 269.964.3888.
