BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A Calhoun County jury has acquitted a former Emmett Township police officer of charges that he sexually abused a relative.
Wednesday, Troy Estree was found not guilty on nine counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim between the ages of 13 and 15.
The jury deliberated for about nine and a half hours — three hours on Tuesday afternoon and then from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday — before reaching their decision.
Estree was originally arrested in the case in August 2014 and accused of sexually assault a teen girl in his Emmett Township home.
He still faces more criminal sexual conduct charges out of Kalamazoo County.
Emmett Township Department of Public Safety Director Mike Olson said Estree’s position with the agency was terminated Jan. 7, 2016. He had been on administrative leave before that.
