Authorities: Girl approached by stranger in van

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kent County Sheriff’s Department said a child reported being approached by a stranger on Thursday evening.

The incident, which authorities described as “suspicious,” happened around 7 p.m. around the Cutler Estates Mobile Home Park in Byron Township, south of Grand Rapids.

The 8-year-old girl told authorities that she was walking home from her bus stop when a man in a van drove up to her and told her to get in his car. She screamed and ran away.

The van backed up and drove away.

The driver was described as a white male without any facial hair wearing glasses. The vehicle was described as a dark-colored van without any side windows. It may have been a work van.
