Residents reported the fire sparked after a lightning strike.

“I got home from work and I went upstairs to eat dinner, I had a dinner in the microwave and some broccoli, and next thing I know, kaboom — an explosion. And it was lightning hitting the building. And it just shook the whole building. Next thing I know, the fire alarms are going off, and I see smoke over my dining room light, underneath the light, and I realize I better get out,” resident Cliff Johnson said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire crews from Spring Lake Township, Ferrysburg, Grand Haven and Crockery Township responded.
