GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Feeding America West Michigan just wrapped up its third record year in a row for food distribution, sending more than 27 million pounds of food to people in need in 2015.
One in five children in West Michigan and one in seven adults is food insecure. That means they don’t always know where their next meal will come from.
Feeding America West Michigan is a food bank, which is different from a food pantry because it supplies agencies such as Kids’ Food Basket and Mel Trotter, who come to the food bank to secure a majority of their food. Those agencies then use that food to serve their clients.
Feeding America West Michigan is always in need of volunteers and donations. Volunteers can help at the food bank or form a team to host a mobile food pantry.
Feeding America West Michigan is helping gather food and water to send to people in Flint affected by the water crisis. You can donate money, water, or canned goods and Feeding America West Michigan will distribute it to Flint.
Another way to help is to attend the WYCE Jammies on February 19 and bring along canned vegetables, peanut butter, or whole grain pasta that will go to Feeding America West Michigan.
