GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) Every year more than $14,000,000 in earned income tax credit go unclaimed in Kent County Now volunteer help is ready to help those who qualify get the money back that they deserve. Brenda Brame of the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition talked with eightWest about helping residents get their money this year.
The United Way Kent County Tax Credit Coalition helps working individuals and families with free tax services as well as financial literacy courses. They have trained volunteers that can help you complete your return and get your Earned Income Tax Credit.
You can call 2-1-1 to register for an appointment. Their specialists will work with you to find a time and a location that will work for you. They will also let you know the necessary paperwork that you will need to complete your tax return. They have 16 sites located throughout Kent County including Rockford, Lowell, Wyoming, Kentwood, and several sites within Grand Rapids City limits.
If your household income is less than $55,000 a year you can qualify for free tax preparation and e-file. You can either make an appointment to have your taxes prepared by an IRS trained and certified volunteer.
This is the 4th year that Steelcase has generously offered their facilities and staff to help prepare taxes for the community. For this event, you do not need to make an appointment. It is available on a first-come, first served basis. It is very important that people bring all the required documents with them including driver’s license, social security card, W-2, etc. For a complete list of documents call 2-1-1 or visit www.huwmuw.org.
Those days are Feb 16 and 18 from 3 – 5 pm. The event takes place at Steelcase University located at 901 44th St. SE, on the corner of Eastern Ave and 44th street.
