Kzoo man critically injured in Portage crash

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo man was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Portage Tuesday night.

The fire and police divisions of the Portage Department of Public Safety were called to the crash at the intersection of S. Sprinkle Road and Meredith Street around 11:40 p.m.

According to police, a 2004 Ford Ranger was traveling east on S. Sprinkle Road through the intersection when a 2003 Toyota Rav 4 failed to obey a traffic signal and attempted to turn left onto southbound Meredith Street from S. Sprinkle Road. The driver of the Ford Ranger was unable to avoid the other vehicle and hit the passenger side.

A 25-year-old Kalamazoo man who was riding in the back seat of the vehicle that was hit was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Police did not release any names.
