Authorities: Wrong-way driver hits semi, rolls

AETNA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A wrong-way driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing into a semi-truck, Mecosta County authorities say.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Sunday on US-131 in Aetna Township, northwest of Morley.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office says a Cedar Springs woman was driving south in the northbound lanes when she hit the semi. Her vehicle rolled and landed in the median.

She was airlifted to a Big Rapids hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office says speed and unknown substances “played a critical role” in the wreck.

Before the crash, the sheriff’s office says, the woman was spotted running several other cars off the road. She also managed to avoid a semi-truck that had stopped on a rest stop off-ramp in an attempt to block her path before authorities could arrive.

There were no other reported injuries.
