GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Athletic Director Terry Bocian is retiring after 43 years at Aquinas College.
He announced his retirement, effective in June, on Wednesday.
Bocian has made his mark on West Michigan athletics. He’s been inducted into four halls of fame. As a baseball coach, he led Aquinas teams to 1,079 wins. As athletic director — a job he’s held since 1978 — the college went from having nine sports to having 26. Aquinas has also upgraded its facilities in a big way in recent years.
Bocian said it has been a privilege to serve the student athletes and the Aquinas community.
But he does have one regret:
“If I made one mistake in my career here at Aquinas, it was giving up coaching baseball too soon,” he said. “I only did it for 30 years, but I should have hung on and done it a few years more. So I’m glad I did stick around, I’m glad of the success and the things we’ve been able to accomplish the last couple of years here.”
