Former GVSU employee pleads guilty to embezzlement

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Grand Valley State University employee pleaded guilty to an embezzlement charge.

Former GVSU Recreation Center employee Lynnea MacGeorge pleaded guilty to embezzlement by an agent or trustee over $20,000 as part of a plea deal on Feb. 1. The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

As part of the plea deal, one count of embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000 will be dismissed.

MacGeorge’s manager said private investigators determined she had embezzled more than $76,000 from January 2012 through June 2015. She said MacGeorge’s bank records showed more than $112,000 was deposited into her bank account, beyond regular paycheck deposits.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on March 14.
