TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WOOD) — The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City shared out some gorgeous photos of Lake Michigan and its shoreline over the weekend, showcasing the Mitten State in all its winter glory.
On Sunday, a photo of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was posted (see above), showing the sun peaking through the clouds and turquoise waves crashing ashore.
The U.S. Coast Guard also shared out several photos of the adjacent South Manitou Island, including its ranger station, dock and lighthouse.
Although it’s well into February, the Coast Guard said ice isn’t forming on Lake Michigan in the area — instead, formation begins north at the Straits of Mackinac.
If you’re interested in learning more about the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore or planning a visit, information is posted on the National Park Service website.
