Man, 76, killed in crash near Rockford

Kent County Sheriff's Dept.: Driver William Billings crashed into a power pole

COURTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a single-car crash east of Rockford on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 5600 block of 10 Mile Road, near Rum Creek in Courtland Township.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says that 76-year-old William Billings of Rockford was headed east when he lost control of his 2006 Mitsubishi Galant.

The car spun, hitting and snapping a wooden power pole.

Billings did not survive.

Power was out in the area for about an hour following the crash, but was restored before 4:30 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
