PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a man suffered serious injuries after a shooting inside a Kalamazoo County banquet facility.

It happened around 12:44 a.m. at The Renaissance on Kilgore Road. Authorities with the Portage Department of Public Safety say they were called to the scene after receiving a report of multiple gunshots fired inside the facility. When they arrived, they found a 22-year-old man from the Detroit area with a gunshot wound to the face.

Authorities say the man was in serious condition, but refused treatment on-scene. He was transported in a private vehicle to the hospital.

Public Safety officers say they were searching for an armed robbery suspect out of Detroit, and were advised by Detroit police that the suspect may have been with the group at the banquet facility, known as the “Shredgang” rap group. That suspect was also taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he was arrested on the charges.

Officers say after the shots were fired, people inside the facility ran out into the parking lot. Authorities do not have a suspect in custody, but did say there have been issues at the facility in the past.

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Portage Department of Public Safety at 269.329.4567.
