GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (AP) — A Detroit-area church has held a funeral for a man whose body was unclaimed at the morgue for six months after he died in a fire.
More than 250 people attended the funeral Friday for Frank Risse at St. Clare of Montefalco Roman Catholic church in Grosse Pointe Park. The Rev. Andrew Kowalczyk says it’s a way to follow Pope Francis’ call for acts of mercy.
The 73-year-old man died in September at his Detroit home. Although people in the neighborhood knew him, his body was unclaimed at the Wayne County morgue. Risse apparently had no family in the Detroit area.
