Attract feathered friends with help from Backyard Birding

Birds at bird feeder

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Seeing the first robin of spring is a reason to celebrate! To see feathered friends in your yard this season, turn to the folks at Backyard Birding.

The staff at Backyard Birding (BYB) helps people attract and enjoy wild birds in their yards. They also encourage learning about birds that may never visit a feeder, but live in Michigan and may visit your yard.

The key to attracting wild birds is providing:

  • Food – what you offer and how you present the food to the birds makes a difference. A variety of feeders with different feed attract different birds
  • Water – BYB has a variety of bird baths to help you attract more birds
  • Shelter/Habitat – BYB will help you plan how to improve your yard to provide attractive habitat and shelter

BYB will help you plan a feeding area that can start with a simple feeder that attracts a variety of birds and then expand your feeding station to add in specialty feeders to attract specific birds. They partner with a local company, VandenBosch in Zeeland, to provide seed that is fresh and without any fillers, Milo, or wheat products.

Visit Backyard Birding at the Cottage and Lakefront Living Show at DeVos Place Friday and Saturday to enter a drawing to win a $100 gift card. Everyone who enters will receive an email for a free five pound bag of Best Blend feed and a coupon good for your first visit to BYB. Another show special is BYB’s most popular hummingbird feeder, The Humblossom. It is on special for only $12 at the show (while supplies last).
