Lakeview Schools closed as BCPD investigates threat

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Lakeview School District in Battle Creek was closed Monday as police investigate a threat made on social media against the district.

The superintendent’s office told 24 Hour News 8 no students or staff are to report Monday. All evening activities have also been canceled. The district says parents will receive updated information once the investigation is complete.

Authorities first got reports of the threats Sunday evening, according to Calhoun County Dispatch. The threats originated on Facebook and appeared to be against students.

Battle Creek police told 24 Hour News 8 that they spoke with the girl whose name appeared on the Facebook post and she told them it was not her that posted it. However, she did provide police with some names of people that may have done it under her name.

Police spoke with those people who all denied posting it as well. Authorities say they don’t have anything to suggest they aren’t being truthful, but the investigation is ongoing.

Separately on Monday afternoon, Emmett Township police said they were investigating a bomb threat at the Harper Creek School complex on Beadle Lake Road, but that they did not think the threat was credible. Still, students were evacuated as a precaution.

Later Monday, police said they had identified as 16-year-old female student as the person responsible for the threat and said several criminal charges were pending against her after the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office got the case on Tuesday morning.

All Harper Creek schools would be open Tuesday, police said.
