PORTLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Several minor crashes caused periodic closures on stretch of I-96 near Portland Monday evening.
Ionia County Central Dispatch said in a Facebook post that both the east and westbound lanes of the highway were “littered” with vehicles. Some traffic was being rerouted to Grand River Avenue. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
Dispatchers told 24 Hour News 8 that no one was hurt in the crashes.
They blamed the crashes on increasingly slippery conditions.
Separately, a crash shut down a stretch of westbound I-196 at College Avenue in Grand Rapids, according the Michigan Department of Transportation.
