GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A well-known local radio personality who’s been absent from the airwaves recently will soon be back on the morning drive.
Eric Zane, formerly of “The Free Beer & Hot Wings Show” on 97.9 WGRD-FM, will begin Thursday morning on 107.3 WBBL-FM on “The Eric Zane Show.” The show will air weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Zane made the announcement on his YouTube channel Monday morning, and then tweeted out the video.
“We got a frickin’ job. I’m ecstatic, I can’t believe it,” Zane said in the video.

Zane parted ways with “The Free Beer & Hot Wings Show” in mid-February. While Townsquare Media — the show’s parent company — and fellow former co-hosts Chris Michaels and Gregg Daniels confirmed Zane’s departure, further details weren’t released at the time. In Monday morning’s YouTube video, Zane admitted he was fired from WGRD — but didn’t provide a reason why.
In Monday’s video, Zane also addressed the fact that he would be competing for listeners against his former colleagues.
“The audience benefits because they now have two great radio shows to listen to in Grand Rapids. That’s exciting for me,” he said in the video.
WBBL-FM is primarily a sports radio station. But Zane said his morning show would follow a similar format to what his fans came to expect from “The Free Beer & Hot Wings Show.”
“I will talk sports when it needs to be talked about,” he said.
