WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Montcalm County man was arrested after police say he tortured a dog, according to a Friday news release from Michigan State Police.
Troopers were called Wednesday to a report of a dog being tortured in Wheatland Township, southeast of Big Rapids.
When troopers arrived at the scene, they found a dog that had “sustained numerous and significant wounds,” the release said. Due to the dog’s serious injuries, troopers euthanized the animal at the scene.
Police say the owner of the dog no longer wanted the dog and asked the man who was arrested to kill the animal.
After investigating, troopers arrested a 33-year-old Six Lakes man who was lodged in the Mecosta County Jail. Suspect Marc Jura now faces a charge of killing or torturing an animal, WPBN out of Traverse City reports.
Jura is being held on a $40,000 bond, according to WPBN, and is expected back in court on April 19.
