GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Gerald R. Ford International Airport officer faces misdemeanor charges after allegedly misusing information from a law enforcement database.

Jeffrey Smeenge faces three counts of unauthorized disclosure of information from the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) database, according to Michigan State Police records.

It wasn’t immediately clear in what way he misused that database, which includes criminal and driving histories and other information that can be used for background checks.

In a statement, Ford Airport said Smeenge, who was a sworn law enforcement officer, had violated employee policies and procedures. He was fired from his job at the airport in March, spokeswoman Tara Hernandez confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 on Tuesday.

The airport’s statement said it holds its officers “to the highest standard of integrity.”
