KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities investigating a Kalamazoo psychologist charged with criminal sexual conduct say another victim has come forward and there still may be more.

David Thayer, 53, faces three misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree CSC for an alleged incident involving a patient from late last year.

According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the case was turned over to its Criminal Investigation Division, which identified multiple victims within the last several months. Authorities said there may be more victims as Thayer has been practicing for more than 25 years.

Detectives are asking any victims who had sexual contact with Thayer as a patient or within two years of ending therapy sessions with him to call them at 269.337.8139.

The state of Michigan describes fourth-degree CSC involving a mental health professional as “sexual contact” between the suspect and patient during or within two years of therapy. The law says “consent of the victim is not a defense and a prosecution under this subsection shall not be used as evidence that the victim is mentally incompetent. “

According to state records, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing suspended Thayer’s license to practice in February for “sexual misconduct.” However, that suspension was overturned last week.
Thayer’s current license remains active through Aug. 31, 2017.

Charges were issued against Thayer on Friday. He turned himself in and was released from jail on bond Tuesday.
