GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Over 600 pets found a home on Saturday during Empty the Shelters day, according to the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
A total of 605 pets were adopted from 24 shelters across Michigan.
The breakdown of adoptions: 303 dogs, 298 cats and four other kinds of pets.
The Kent County Animal Shelter, Humane Society of West Michigan, Ionia County Animal Shelter, Al-Van Humane Society, All About Animals Rescue and SPCA of Southwest Michigan completely emptied their kennels.
BISSEL Pet Foundation sponsored adoptions at 24 shelters around the state on Saturday – including 17 shelters in West Michigan — in an effort to encourage potential pet owners to adopt, according to a BISSELL release.
