GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A packaging company is investing millions to expand its Grand Rapids facility, adding 50 new jobs over the next three years.
Pregis Films, formerly Eagle Film Extruders, is investing $17.1 million to expand its operations on Hynes Avenue SW north of Hall Street, according to West Michigan economic development agency The Right Place, Inc.
Pregis will add a fifth production line to meet increased demand. The company hopes to have the new line, which will manufacture five-layer plastic blown film, up and running by mid-summer. It will also invest in new equipment to make flexible packaging products.
The expansion was announced after the Michigan Strategic Fund OK’d a $300,000 incentive grant for the company. West Michigan Works! Is offering $113,000 in workforce development funding. The City of Grand Rapids is also considering a property tax abatement to support the expansion.
The packaging company recently changed its name after being bought by Pregis, LLC out of Illinois.
