Driver runs stop sign, hit by oncoming semi-truck

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (WOOD) — An 18-year-old man is recovering from injuries following a crash with a semi-truck in Cass County.

Police say Tobin Michael-Ray Weldy, of Niles, ran a stop sign at the intersection of M-60 and Hospital Street in Cassopolis and was hit by a southbound semi-truck shortly after 10 p.m. Monday.

Weldy was checked by emergency crews on scene before his father drove him to St. Joseph Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the semi-truck, John Lietzen of Illinois, was not injured in the crash.

Police say both men were wearing their seat belts. It’s unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
