BCPD: Man arrested after trying to run down police with vehicle

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a man was arrested early Saturday morning for trying to run down police with his vehicle.

It happened around 12:40 a.m. in the 200 block of Battle Creek Avenue in Battle Creek. Battle Creek police say an officer heard tires squealing in the area, and saw a white truck pull behind a home in that area. The officer saw the vehicle strike the residence when she tried to contact the driver.

The officer told the driver to get out of his vehicle, but the driver ignored her and drove at her, forcing her to jump out of the way of the vehicle. The suspect then drove his vehicle at another patrol vehicle responding to the area. That officer was able to avoid the suspect’s vehicle.

The driver led police on a short chase, striking three parked vehicles before stopping.

The suspect, a 39-year-old male, was taken into custody. He’s charged with two counts of Felonious Assault with a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing and Eluding and Operating Under the Influence of Drugs
