GRANT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Newaygo County Sheriff’s deputies say a 12-year-old boy was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday night.
The crash happened at 5:33 p.m. at the intersection of 22 Mile Road Northwest and South Elder Avenue in Grant Township, north of Kent City.
Authorities say when they arrived on-scene, a bystander was performing CPR on the 12-year-old boy, who was in one of the vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle the 12-year-old was in was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were treated at the scene.
Both cross streets change names at the intersection, which also marks a border between Muskegon, Kent and Newaygo counties. Moore/22 Mile Road was blocked off as far away as Callen Avenue to the east and M-37 to the west, and Kenowa/Elder Avenue was shut down as far as 21 Mile to the south and 136th Street to the north while crews worked at the scene.
Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The crash is under investigation.
