EUREKA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two morel mushroom hunters are credited with helping a Montcalm County woman who was attacked and thrown out of a vehicle in Eureka Township.
The mushroom hunters were on Berridge Road south of Fenwick Road around 7:15 p.m. Monday when they heard a woman calling for help. The 19-year-old Crystal woman was so badly injured the pair of Good Samaritans took her to the hospital.
The victim told a deputy she was riding with a man when they got into a fight. She said the man became irate and attacked her, strangling her and pushing her out of his vehicle.
The woman was flown from United Memorial Hospital to a Grand Rapids hospital where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday.
The suspect, 28-year-old Devin Sebastian Tumbleson of Belding, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and assault by strangulation. He was in jail on a $25,000 bond Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators say the victim knew Tumbleson but they were not intimately involved.
