Crossing guard hit by car in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police say a crossing guard was hit by a car Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Griggs Street and Madison Avenue SE just before 8 a.m.

According to police, the 75-year-old female crossing guard had just walked a child across Madison, when a vehicle traveling east on Griggs turned north on Madison and hit the woman in the knee as she stepped onto the curb.

Police on scene say the woman suffered minor injuries.

The 26-year-old driver was ticketed for failing to stop for a crossing guard and driving with a suspended license.

The crash will be investigated by the Grand Rapids Police Department’s traffic unit.
